Hadn't heard this in a long long time I played Lapalco to death when it first came out, it just popped into my head again when I got out of bed this morning. Reminds me of where I was at the time Christmas 2002 I'd broken up with the girl I'd been with since I was 15, the line that goes "bottle of wine and some cigarettes, watch TV and go to bed" was mirroring my life at that point. Happy Sad vibes.
Not just an underated musician and singer but writer also. I respect Jack White alot but Brendan deserves just as much accolade for the Raconteurs songs!!
I have loved this song and Brendan since I was 15 back in 2002/2003 when this was released. I don't have any idea why people didn't catch onto his stuff till The Raconteurs. Seriously folx.
Amazing! Pure authentic and true. This song has such an vintage/Beatles/Simon and Garfunkel /modern vibe at the same time but also is very original. Love it !! Great job Brendan ;)

Anyone know if this version is available as an mp3? Even the original version of Metarie is unavailable on Benson's own site as well as iTunes. I'd take either one. I used to have the mp3 but it has evaporated...
I love BB, but the album version of this is much much better - not sure this was ever necessary. Anyway, he is still lovely and his new album is wonderful
i still don't get how he isn't more popular...I mean his songs are catchy his lyrics are good and the songs are kinda cheery...and as for this song it has to be amongst my favourite of the album!!=D
While I really like this song, I think I've identified why I've always been a little uneasy about it. It doesn't actually have a chorus. "There's something I've been meaning to say to you" is really just a transition. This new version seems a bit disorganized, maybe try to try to make up for that. I'm not sure. Still, I like it.

I found out who he is from the Raconeurs. Liked his songs on the second album better than Jacks (seeing as though they shared writing duties on the first). Also album version is better

There is more than one original. Look for the one with no album on grooveshark. That's the best one.
